Hello from Northwestern! It's your favorite theatre majors from the Cleveland area-- Anna and Galya! This year, we have made the decision to participate in one of the largest fully student-run philanthropies in the country, Northwestern University’s Dance Marathon. Two years ago, we happened to find ourselves as sophomore transfer students into the theatre department. Now, as seniors, it is important for us to give back and celebrate the power of our student body with the university that has given us so much.

With more than 350 students on planning committees, and more than 1,300 student
dancers, dancing in DM is by far one of the best ways we can get involved in and give back to the
Northwestern community. Last year’s Dance Marathon raised more than $1,000,000 for the first
time in its 38-year history! We are especially excited to dance this year because of DM’s amazing
beneficiaries, the Danny Did and Evanston Community Foundations.

Dance Marathon 2013’s main beneficiary is the Danny Did Foundation (DDF), an organization dedicated to raising awareness about Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). The DDF develops seizure detection and prediction devices. Every year, there are approximately 50,000 deaths caused by seizures in the United States. According to a 2012 Institute of Medicine report, approximately 1-in-26 people will develop epilepsy at some point in their lives. One hundred percent of the money raised for the DDF will go toward the discovery, development, and distribution of commercially available seizure detection devices. Our secondary beneficiary is the Evanston Community Foundation, an organization based in Northwestern’s hometown that supports and develops local community groups.

We have pledged to raise a combined total of at least $800 ($400 each) to support the Danny Did and Evanston Community Foundations. We will start working to reach our goal by participating in fundraising events here at Northwestern; however, we are hoping that your company will consider
supporting us directly. We are sincerely grateful for any donation you make toward this cause. You can contribute through a check made payable to Northwestern University and sent to our address below, or via a secure online donation at www.nudm.org. All donations are completely tax-
deductible, and we’d be happy to give you a receipt of your donation.
